How does laser technology work?
In our practice, we have various lasers at our disposal, including an Erbium:YAG laser, CO2 laser, and PicoStar laser. Each of these lasers offers specific advantages, and we choose them based on your skin concerns, using them with settings optimized for you. The fundamental technology operates by converting laser light into heat in the tissue. This process destroys older skin cells, removes tiny skin particles, and causes needle-like micro-injuries to the skin. The subsequent healing process creates new, young cells. The heat contracts the skin and appears smoother and younger after the treatment. The collagen synthesis in the tissue is stimulated, which in the long-term increases the elasticity and firmness of the skin.
In our practice at Vienna Central Station, we use the fractionated erbium: YAG from Asclepion, which is a particularly gentle variant for removing the superficial layers of skin.
We use the Asclepion PICO laser to treat pigmentation and age spots. This laser activates the color contained in the pigment or age spot. This method is gentle and painless. The surrounding tissue is not affected.
What areas of application are there?
The skin is removed superficially over a larger area (face, neck, décolleté). This enables the following goals to be achieved:
- Reduction of wrinkles on the cheeks, mouth area and eyes
- Removal of pigment and age spots
- Reduction of acne scars
- Removal of photodamage to the skin (e.g., actinic keratoses)
- General improvement of the complexion
- Skin rejuvenation and beautification (anti-aging)
The treatments are suitable for both men and women.
Why should I have the treatment carried out by you?
Ten experienced dermatologists are available to you in our center at the main rail station in Vienna. All dermatologists have many years of extensive experience in handling lasers. Our center also offers a variety of lasers for all possible areas of application, such as the treatment of rosacea, spider veins, raised moles and other undesired skin conditions. In this way, you can draw on the full dermatological potential with the latest laser equipment.
How does the treatment work?
You will be informed in detail about the treatment and possible risks in a consultation. On the day of the treatment, depending on the depth of treatment you have chosen, you may have an anesthetic cream applied to your face in advance. During the treatment, you will wear protective glasses and your dermatologist will hover the laser head over the area of the skin to be treated. Depending on the size of the treatment area, this can take 10-30 minutes. After that, active ingredients such as antioxidants or hyaluronic acid can be applied to the face, the small channels created by the treatment help the ingredients penetrate the skin particularly well. You will also be given a soothing face mask to reduce the redness of your skin. You can then leave the practice, strict sun protection is necessary.
How long is the downtime?
The laser treatment causes the skin to become red, rough and flaky. The picture is similar to a sunburn. The healing process is quick, as only tiny skin particles are removed and the remaining skin cells are spared. The healing process can start from the untreated cells of the skin.
The traces of treatment are usually visible for 3-4 days but can be longer with deeper treatments. After that there may still be slight reddening, but your appearance has already been restored. It is particularly noteworthy to mention CoolPeel® in this context. With this approach, the downtime is reduced to 1-3 days.
Are there risks related to the treatment?
There are no major risks, and no side effects are to be expected if the measures explained in the consultation are followed. Immediately after the treatment, there will be redness and possibly slight swelling. The skin feels like sunburn. But it is precisely these effects that we want to achieve with the treatment so that the desired effect occurs.
What do I have to look out for after the treatment?
It is extremely important that you do not expose the treated areas to the sun. In any case, sun protection with a sun protection factor of 50+ must be worn outdoors. However, it is even better to avoid the sun completely in the first few days after the treatment, as otherwise unsightly skin discoloration can occur. These discolorations often go away on their own, but prevention is definitely the better option.
If a scab forms in the treatment area, you will have to wait for it to resolve on its own. You may not pull it off by force. During the consultation, you will be informed in detail and we will advise you on how to best organize the recovery time after the treatment.
